The first article introduces the in the project participating fruit grower Schmitz-Hübsch as well as the demonstration project. In the second article, the project supervisor of the federal state North Rhine-Westphalia Dr. Silke Benz was interviewed to the problem.

Inspection of netted raspberry foil tunnel at the demonstration farm Feindt

Within the demonstration project, on 09.04.2019 was held an inspection of the netted raspberry foil tunnel at the demonstration farm Feindt in Buxtehude (Lower Saxony). It was focused on possible solutions, tips and tricks for problems during the installation of netting systems.


Stone fruit consultation days 2019
25.02.2019

On 25th February was held the Stone fruit consultation days 2019 at the Esteburg in Jork. Jan-Henrik Wiebusch (LWK Lower-Saxony) presented the demonstration project as well as the results and latest findings of the exclusion netting of cherries. Further were explained and discussed the problems of the exclusion netting and possible proposed solutions.

20. – 25.01.2019

From 20. – 25.01.2019 was held the PheroFIP 19, Joint meeting of the IOBC-WPRS Working Groups "Pheromones and other semiochemicals in IP" and "Integrated Protection of Fruit Crops" in Lisbon/ Portugal. Dr. Heidrun Vogt (JKI) presented the demonstration project as well as the results of the first two project years (140 participants, 34 countries).


2018

7. Workshop of Working Group „Spotted Wing Drosophila“
04. - 05.12.2018

From 4th to 5th December 2018 was held the 7. Workshop of the working group „Spotted Wing Drosophila“ at Geisenheim University. Mrs. Bianca Boehnke (JKI Dossenheim), Mr. Clemens Augel (LTZ Augustenberg) as well as Mr. Gerd Eberhardt (JKI Kleinmachnow) presented in the section „Exclusion netting“ special results of the demonstration project. Approximately 66 participants were present. Mr. Augel presented in his talk “Exclusion netting for managing Spotted Wing Drosophila in fruit crops” special problems of the exclusion netting of cherries in 2018. Mrs. Boehnke presented in her talk „Exclusion netting of raspberries for managing Spotted Wing Drosophila – Results, problems and particularities“ results to the accompanying experiments of the demonstration project at JKI. Finally, Mr. Eberhardt explained the economic analysis of the costs of different exclusion netting systems.


19. Federal workshop for consultants in soft fruits
06. – 07.12.2018

From 06th to 7th of December 2018 was held the 19. Federal Workshop for consultants in soft fruits in Grünberg. Mrs. Dr. Silke Benz (LWK NRW) presented in her talk „Exclusion netting for managing Spotted Wing Drosophila in fruit crops: selected results from 2017 and 2018” results of first two project years (ca. 80 participants).

From 05. – 07. 09.2018 was held the by IOBC Working Group "Integrated Plant Protection in Fruit Crops" Sub Group "Soft Fruits" organized 9th International IOBC-WPRS Workshop on Integrated Plant Protection of soft fruits” in Riga (Latvia). Within the workshop, Mrs. Bianca Boehnke (JKI) presented the demonstration project and the up-to-date results.

Additionally, at beginning of February 2019 will be published an extended Abstract of the presentation held by Bianca Boehnke in the IOBC-WPRS Bulletin.


Seminar at organic fruit grower Tambke, Jork
23.07.2018

On 23.07.2018 was held a seminar about the exclusion netting of cherry cultures at the participating fruit grower Tambke. The project supervisors Mr. Jan-Henrik Wiebusch and Mr. Julian Lindstaedt (LWK Lower Saxony) presented the project and the results of the first project year. Additionally, within an on-site inspection of a netted cherry orchard was discussed the handling and experiences of exclusion netting systems and also the professional pollination in protected cultivation systems was explained by the company BEEsharing P.A.L.S. GmbH.

23.05.2018

On 23th May 2018, an informational meeting was held at fruit grower Sterthoff´s demonstration farm. The demonstration project and the results of the first project year were presented by Mrs. Dr. Silke Benz (LWK NRW) to other fruit growers and representatives of the foil systems and net industry (20 participants). The exclusion netting of cherries was explained and demonstrated. As last year, reporters of the journal “Gartenbauprofi” as well as the web portal “Erdbeer Spargel Portal” were present.

13. - 14.03.2018

On 13th and 14th March 2018 was held the yearly meeting of the demonstration project „Exclusion netting to managing Spotted Wing Drosophila in fruit crops“ at Julius Kuehn-Institute in Dossenheim. The results of the first project year as well as the economic effects of the exclusion netting were presented and discussed. 20.07.2017

An informational meeting was held at fruit grower Matthias Sonntag’s demonstration farm on 20th July 2017. Mr. Sonntag explained how exclusion netting is applied to his raspberry and bramble plots. He also shared his view on benefits and drawbacks of this method of pest control. The participants had the opportunity to take a look at the construction on-site and to discuss the pros and cons and how improvements could be made. The demonstration project was presented by Mrs. Dr. Silke Benz (Ditzer) (LWK NRW). The journal “Gartenbauprofi 08/17” published a report and the website „Erdbeer-Spargel-Portal“ published a three-part report on the event.
