Within the 62. German Plant Protection Congress, Gerd Eberhardt (JKI, Institute for Strategies and Technology Assessment) and Bianca Boehnke (JKI, Institute for Plant Protection in Fruit Crops and Viticulture) presented results, experiences and knowledge of the demonstration project "Exclusion netting for managing spotted Wing Drosophila in fruit crops (Drosophila suzukii)". On 12.09.2021, at Julius Kuehn-Institute in Dossenheim took place an open day. Besides a lot of plant protection relevant topics was also presented exclusion netting of fruit crops, the results of demonstration project and project accompanying experiments at JKI to interested people by Bianca Boehnke (JKI Dossenheim). In addition, short films from demonstration project and other recordings were shown.

On 23.08. and 25.08.21, Erdbeer-Spargel-Portal published a two-part report inclusive videos with Dr. Silke Benz (LWK NRW) on „Demonstrationsvorhaben: Einnetzen gegen die Kirschessigfliege". In first video, Dr. Benz reported on the reults to demonstration project. In second video, Dr. Benz gives important tips on the practical useof exclusion nets.

The short film shows the set up of the foil canopy and exclusion netting of cherry plant of fruit grower Stein in Hirschberg an der Bergstraße (Baden-Wuerttemberg). The cherry plant have a size of 2,6 ha. The steps of installation of the modern foil canopy-net-system will be shown in video. Fruit grower Stein is a participating demonstration farm in demonstration project "Exclusion netting to managing Spotted Wing Drosophila in fruit crops". Exclusion netting of fruit crops is currently the most important method to managing Spotted Wing Drosophila.

The blueberry plant will be fully covered with nets (mesh size 0,8 mm x 0,8 mm) without any foil covering. The supporting structure consisting of wooden posts and wires. The fruit grower Baßler is a participating demonstration farm in demonstration project "Exclusion netting to managing Spotted Wing Drosophila in fruit crops". Exclusion netting of fruit crops is currently the most important method to managing Spotted Wing Drosophila.

From 03. - 04.12.2019 was held the 8. Workshop of Working Group "Spotted Wing Drosophila" at Bildungszentrum für Landwirtschaft und Gartenbau in Münster-Wolbeck. Bianca Boehnke (JKI Dossenheim) presented the the results of the three project year as well as the results of the project-accompanying experiments (application of pupal parasitoid Trichopria drosophilae to mnaging Spotted Wing Drosophila in netted fruit crops).
Gerd Eberhardt (JKI Kleinmachnow) gave a detailed overview of the economic evaluation of the exclusion netting of fruit crops.

On 04.07.2019, the experimental station for berry cultures Langenförden offered interested people the possibility to have a tour to actually variety
testings and experiments. Within the demonstration project, Ms. Kathrin Kramer (OVR) presented the results of demonstration project and the study of netted raspberries. Approximatelly 30 visitors came to the informational tour, interested fruit farmers as well as further expert audience like foil tunnel producers or the University of Applied Science Osnabrück.

On 02.07.2019 was held an information event at fdemonstration farm Korn in Welver. Dr. S. Benz (LWK NRW) explained the exclsuioon netting of raspberries and presented the results of demonstration project. Like last year, press and local television were present. In the local news programme „Lokalzeit" of WDR was presented a television report as well as reports in different journals and online portals to the event.

„Open day" at Julius Kuehn-Institute, Institute for plant protection in fruit crops and viticulture

On 30.06.2019, at Julius Kuehn-Institute in Dossenheim took place an open day. Besides a lot of plant protection relevant topics was also presented the demonstration project to interested people by Bianca Boehnke (JKI Dossenheim). In spite of hot temperatures, approximatelly 400 people came to the event and showed interest to the topics of plant protection. Because of the big proplems with Spotted Wing Drosophila and Cherry Fruit Fly in 2019, people showed great interested to exclusion netting of fruit crops.

Besides the problems with cherry imports, Dr. S. Benz (LWK NRW) presented the exclusion netting of cherries and the demonstration project (approximatelly 50 participants). The expert group for fruit production Bonn/ Rhein-Sieg (Fachgruppe Obstbau Bonn/ Rhein-Sieg) published photos and reports to presentation of Dr. S. Benz. Also other online portals published reports on event.

From 4th to 5th December 2018 was held the 7. Workshop of the working group „Spotted Wing Drosophila“ at Geisenheim University. Mrs. Bianca Boehnke (JKI Dossenheim), Mr. Clemens Augel (LTZ Augustenberg) as well as Mr. Gerd Eberhardt (JKI Kleinmachnow) presented in the section „Exclusion netting“ special results of the demonstration project. Approximately 66 participants were present. Mr. Augel presented in his talk “Exclusion netting for managing Spotted Wing Drosophila in fruit crops” special problems of the exclusion netting of cherries in 2018. Mrs. Boehnke presented in her talk „Exclusion netting of raspberries for managing Spotted Wing Drosophila – Results, problems and particularities“ results to the accompanying experiments of the demonstration project at JKI. Finally, Mr. Eberhardt explained the economic analysis of the costs of different exclusion netting systems.

From 05. – 07. 09.2018 was held the by IOBC Working Group "Integrated Plant Protection in Fruit Crops" Sub Group "Soft Fruits" organized “9th International IOBC-WPRS Workshop on Integrated Plant Protection of soft fruits” in Riga (Latvia). Within the workshop, Mrs. Bianca Boehnke (JKI) presented the demonstration project and the up-to-date results.
Additionally, at beginning of February 2019 will be published an extended Abstract of the presentation held by Bianca Boehnke in the IOBC-WPRS Bulletin.
Seminar at organic fruit grower Tambke, Jork

On 23.07.2018 was held a seminar about the exclusion netting of cherry cultures at the participating fruit grower Tambke. The project supervisors Mr. Jan-Henrik Wiebusch and Mr. Julian Lindstaedt (LWK Lower Saxony) presented the project and the results of the first project year. Additionally, within an on-site inspection of a netted cherry orchard was discussed the handling and experiences of exclusion netting systems and also the professional pollination in protected cultivation systems was explained by the company BEEsharing P.A.L.S. GmbH.

On 23th May 2018, an informational meeting was held at fruit grower Sterthoff´s demonstration farm. An informational meeting was held at fruit grower Matthias Sonntag’s demonstration farm on 20th July 2017. Mr. Sonntag explained how exclusion netting is applied to his raspberry and bramble plots. He also shared his view on benefits and drawbacks of this method of pest control. The participants had the opportunity to take a look at the construction on-site and to discuss the pros and cons and how improvements could be made. The demonstration project was presented by Mrs. Dr. Silke Benz (Ditzer) (LWK NRW). The journal “Gartenbauprofi 08/17” published a report and the website „Erdbeer-Spargel-Portal“ published a three-part report on the event.
